Summer Competition 2019

Today, I spoke with the Bureau Of Meteorology Melbourne. The reason for this call was to ascertain the temperature for Sunday morning for the

start of the Summer Competition. The information is, that the morning will be extremely hot, too hot to play. A couple of years ago football was

allowed to be played in a temperature of 35 degrees. Currently the temperature for football to be played in is 32 degrees. This temperature is

applied by all other football organisation throughout Victoria.

The chart below is from the BoM, which clearly shows the temperature is too high to safely play football this Sunday.

This chart is updated at 5:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  I was informed by the representative from the BoM that, if there is any change to the temperature

for Sunday  it would be negligible and if there was any movement it is likely to be an upward movement in the temperature.

Therefore the Board Of Management has made the decision to cancel all games in the East and the West for Sunday 3 February 2019.

The decision is based on the health and well being and the safety of all the players and match officials.

If the Bureau Of Meteorology Melbourne had stated that there was a chance of the temperature falling we would wait until the last minute to make

a decision, but this is not the case.  The safety of our players and match officials is our first priority and always will be.

We are not prepared to risk serious injury or lose a life for the sake of playing football.

We hope you understand the decision.

Thank you
